Kazuhiko Nukumizu is a high school boy content to blend in with the background mob, until he witnessed his more popular classmate Anna Yanami get dumped by her childhood friend. He felt like he had to try to comfort Yanami, but this led him to become entangled with other girls who have met defeat at love?

Season picksMust watchSummer 2024A self-described background character becomes the designated crying shoulder for every losing childhood-friend heroine at his school, starting with a trauma-eating classmate who just got dumped. Truly fantastic character writing and an all-in production with movie-quality backgrounds, cinematic character animation and a live-action ED composited with real analog cels. A power statement of a romcom that both celebrates and pokes fun at nostalgic tropes.
Worst of the seasonBad but funSummer 2024Meta commentary on romcom tropes is a little trashy conceptually, and the remarkably fleshed-out cast is full of out-of-pocket trash, from homewrecker energy to otaku chaos to a teacher straight up committing crimes. Any animator who puts that much effort into tummy shading knows exactly what they are making. Five golden dumpsters full of fireworks.
