When growing tensions around AI spark civil unrest, Akira is caught in the crossfire when he protects his girlfriend from an assassin’s bullet. Hundreds of years later, he awakens from cryogenic sleep to an unfamiliar world. As he struggles to come to terms with his new reality, he bonds with an android called Yugure, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his girlfriend. Season picksMust watchFall 2025P.A. Works' 25th-anniversary original: a man wakes from cryosleep into a fascist-controlled agrarian future and teams up with an android who looks exactly like his genius fiance. Skip the boring episode zero, but once episode 1 gets going it absolutely rules, with spectacular action and a gorgeous, meticulously built post-apocalypse from a JoJo director's original script. The only worry is 12 episodes may not be enough.
Worst of the seasonBad but funFall 2025A 10 out of 10 first episode with breathtaking battle waifus, then episode 3 swerves into a love-triangle mafia succession arc with an android trying to make the hero jealous. The draw is the delightful plot-derailing anime nonsense and the robot waifu versus Tommy-gun gangster fights. Three golden dumpsters, with a warning it cannot waste many of its 12 episodes on this.
