Jirou Azuma is no average high schooler. A descendant of ninjas and trained in the ancient warrior art of the shinobi, Jirou is also able to talk with animals. After a mysterious encounter with an injured cat named Ragou, Jirou discovers the feline is actually the legendary Black Star of Doom! Joined by the Bureau of Espionage, they fight off swarms of mononoke lying in wait to exploit Ragou’s powers.

Season picksWorth a lookSummer 2026Another delinquent-with-a-heart-of-gold absorbs an ancient demon's power to survive supernatural shenanigans. Jujutsu Kaisen at home, but the action rips, the atmosphere drips and the tropey cast has real charisma. Upper-mid-tier shonen battle goodness you never get tired of.
Worst of the seasonBad but funSummer 2026A generic but pretty good supernatural shonen action show that is nothing to write home about up front. Its character and costume designs reward men of culture viewing from low angles. Four baskets of jalapeno bread.
