After venturing into a restricted, treacherous mountain forest, siblings Hinata and Kaoru meet a terrifying serpent god and become besties! Despite her initially scary appearance, the self-named “god of misfortune” is awkward, lonely, and surprisingly easy to talk to. This is the tale of an unexpected friendship, and the many comedic, heartfelt adventures that ensue.

Season picksWorth a lookSummer 2026A horny horror comedy where a landslide frees the ancient spirit of murder their family kept sealed on a mountain, and the two very open-minded siblings decide she is their new best friend. The mellowed-out spirit is more worried about their terrible survival instincts. Think The Summer Hikaru Died if Hikaru were a busty snake lady and the whole story were different. Just weird.
Worst of the seasonBad but funSummer 2026An ancient, wrathful snake demigoddess straight out of J-horror gets unsealed and two kids decide she is their best friend, a reverse of the dark Doraemon premise used by Takopi's Original Sin. Genuinely scary horror makes the comedy funnier, and the comedy feeds back into a moving story about her moving past centuries of pain, the best laugh-plus-lore mix since Hinamatsuri. Low-key a possible masterpiece and five gold dumpsters.
