Hinako lives alone by the sea, quietly drifting through life after losing her family years ago. One day, a mermaid named Shiori saves her from a monster and says she’s come to eat her—just not yet. Until then, Shiori will stay by her side and keep her safe. In that moment, a deep hope swells in Hinako: Maybe this girl can finally grant her the ending she’s been waiting for.

Senpai’s take
Season picksMust watchFall 2025A suicidal girl with survivor's guilt is protected by a mermaid yokai who wants to eat her once her flavor ripens. Not on The Summer Hikaru Died's level for direction or production, but impressively unnerving, using surreal underwater imagery and sound to show her dissociation. The monsters of the week could be scarier, but Shiori's predatory, seductive performance makes up for it.
